ERNEST S. DiGIULIO JR. - North Providence
ERNEST S. DiGIULIO JR., 65, of 1925 Smith St., a retired captain
in the North Providence Fire Department, died Saturday at Philip
Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence.
He was the husband of Margaret (McElroy) DiGiulio. They had been
married for 25 years. Born in North Providence, the son of the
late Ernest S. and Caroline (Marchione) Di Giulio, he had lived
in the same house all his life.
Mr. DiGiulio
was a firefighter for the Town of North Providence for 31 years,
before retiring in 1999 as a captain. He had joined the
Centredale volunteer fire department in 1955, and was one of the
first 10 men appointed to the permanent Fire Department in 1971.
He had worked in every station in town and was acting battalion
chief on many occasions.
He was a member of North Providence Firefighters Local 2334,
serving as vice president and on the executive board, and of the
negotiating committee.
He was a graduate of Community College of Rhode Island with a
degree in fire science in 1983. He was an Army veteran.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Michele M. DiGiulio of
North Providence, and a niece, Diane Perry of Smithfield. He was
the brother of the late Bertha Patrick.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. from Elliott M.
Robbins Chapel, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., with a Mass of
Christian Burial at 10 in Mary Mother of Mankind Church, 25
Fourth St. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
